Umma - 1960

Hello friends,

Again after a long gap am posting a song ...this is one song i really like.

A song that had been a super hit of the 60s. Originally sung by the famous singer Jikki..for the movie Umma - 1960. P.G. KRISHNAVENI, more popularly known as Jikki, the nightingale of yesteryear South Indian Cinema, shall sing no more. Now caressing, now appealing, now cajoling, her pleasantly melodious voice was always tantalising. Her voice might have been silenced but her songs shall ring in our ears forever ...

I learnt this song to sing in my college for the union inaugration. This was a very rough work ..pradip uncle mixed it for me..It was all initially for just hearing my voice with the karaoke... Then thought y not post it? And it is here..Lots of errors here nd there. So please excuse me for those. Do listen and comment here!! Thank u in advance.Have a great day ahead!!!!

My very sincere attempt...a classical song

Kriti : Kripaya Palaya

Composer : Swati Thirunal

Raaga : Charukeshi

Taala : Mishra chaapu

Sri Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma was the Maharaja of the state of Travancore, in India. He reigned from 1829 until his death in 1846.
Besides being an able ruler, he was a patron of music and a musician by himself. He encouraged both broad systems of Indian music, Hindusthani and Carnatic music, though he was essentially a connoisseur of the Carnatic music tradition. He is credited with composing over 400 compositions in Carnatic music as well as Hindustani music. Some of his favorite compositions are Padmanabha Pahi, Deva Deva, Sarasijanabha and Sree Ramana Vibho. The king was fluent in a number of languages such as Sanskrit,Hindi,Malayalam,Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Oriya and English.

Raga Charukeshi is a janya of the 26th melakartA of the same name with the following set (M=shuddha madhyam): S R G M P d n.Although a Carnatic raga, it is a common belief that raga Charukeshi is a new entrant to Hindustani Classical Music. It exists in the Hindustani style as Raga “Chandramauli”, but was probably popularised by the Carnatic style & therefore has become popular as “Charukeshi”
Due to the chalan of the raga, there are nuances of the Bhairav Ang, so many artists perform this raga in the morning.. Raga Chandramauli or Charukeshi as it is known today is a late night melody.

Now something personal.I have put my best in this. But since i did not know how to use the software properly couldnt edit anything and had to do it in one stretch. Besides it has been real long since i practised so lot of breathing difficulties.Inspite of all that i have tried my best Please do give me all your comments. Thank you for visiting this site. Wish you a happy day.
